Al-Qaida London bomber video released

LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- The al-Qaida terror group released videotape Thursday on which one of the suicide bombers that hit London's transit system last year warns of more attacks.

Shahzad Tanweer, 22, who killed himself along with seven other people on a train on July 7, 2005, is seen in the video issuing threats in English dubbed into Arabic in the video that aired on the al-Jazeera network.

"What you have witnessed now is only the beginning of a string of attacks that will continue and become stronger," Tanweer said.

Al-Qaida's second-in-command, Ayman al Zawahiri, also appeared in the video apart from Tanweer, and praised him for his role in the attack.

Scotland Yard Assistant Commissioner Andy Hayman said the timing of the video's release, on the eve of the first anniversary, was undoubtedly meant to cause "maximum hurt," the BBC reported.

A British parliamentary intelligence and security committee report in May said the degree of al-Qaida involvement in the attacks remains under investigation, but Sky News said the new tape suggests the terror group had a significant role in the attacks.
