Karzai: Change foreign anti-terror tactics

KABUL, Afghanistan, June 22 (UPI) -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Thursday the rising bloodshed in his country showed a need for changing the international military approach to the Taliban.

Karzai expressed frustration at a Kabul news conference, saying there were domestic improvements needed in local government and to strengthen the police and army, but he said the international military intervention needs to be reassessed as well, the BBC reported.

"I have systematically, consistently and on a daily basis warned the international community of what was developing in Afghanistan ... and of a change in approach by the international community in this regard," he said, suggesting more focus on cutting financial support lines, training and equipment of the Taliban.

More than 500 people have been killed by insurgent violence in Afghanistan in the past three months, Voice of America said.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military confirmed four U.S. soldiers had been killed Wednesday during fighting with suspected Taliban insurgents in eastern Afghanistan, VOA reported.
