Indians will see 'The Da Vinci Code'

NEW DELHI, May 19 (UPI) -- The Indian government has released the film "The Da Vinci Code" with a disclaimer as well as an adult certification after nationwide Christian protests.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi said Thursday that the movie was released after a viewing of the film and discussions with Christian leaders.

The controversial movie will include the disclaimer, "This movie is a work of pure fiction and does not have any intention to hurt the sentiments," the Mumbai Mirror reported Friday.

The movie will not be cut in India, but the ministry suggested that the film receive an "A" rating, for adults only. It is not clear if the movie will be released Friday which is the date set for the movie's release in India.

"The Da Vinci Code" provoked widespread protests in India from both the Christian and Muslim communities. The more than 200 complaints received by the authorities compelled the ministry to hold the special viewing.
