Central, South Europe states meet

VARNA, Bulgaria, May 19 (UPI) -- Heads of state of 14 countries of Central and Southeast Europe gathered at a Bulgarian Black Sea resort to discuss political and economic problems.

In the Varna resort, the leaders considered ways to move the Balkan states into the European Union, the Serbian Beta news agency reported Friday.

In his opening address, Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov told the other leaders, "Such gatherings are an opportunity to exchange opinions and ideas on subjects of common interest, not only for the participating countries, but for the whole of Europe."

The participating countries were Albania, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
