Reporter brings bomb to EU meeting hotel

BRUSSELS, March 28 (UPI) -- A reporter claimed she smuggled a bomb into a Brussels hotel where German leader Angela Merkel and French leader Jacques Chirac were staying, reports said.

Despite security measures at the European Union summit meeting last week, journalist Katleen Peeraer of Belgian TV network VTM said she was not searched at the hotel entrance.

In addition to a bomb powerful enough to blow up a floor of the hotel, the reporter claimed she also had a loaded pistol in her bag, Web site EUobserver.com reported.

"She walked in and out (of the hotel) without problems," the Belgian TV network reported on its Web site.

Producers of the VTM program "Telefacts" said they wanted to highlight poor security at EU summit meetings held in Brussels.

Security officials said the reporter was not searched because she did not act suspiciously.
