ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 23 (UPI) -- The government rested its case Thursday in the sentencing trial of terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui in federal court in Alexandria, Va.
The case could go to the jury next week. Jurors must decide whether Moussaoui could have prevented the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. If they find that he could have, they will then have to decide whether he deserves a death sentence.
The final prosecution witness was FBI Agent Aaron Zebley, who told the jury Moussaoui received money wired from the same German source as the hijackers who attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon, The Los Angeles Times reported.
"I will testify! No matter what you say I will testify!" Moussaoui yelled as prosecutors said they had no more witnesses.
Also Thursday, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema subpoenaed Carla Martin, a lawyer for the Transportation Security Administration, to appear in court Monday. Martin could face a contempt of court charge for coaching government witnesses.
