Pakistan kills 26 suspected insurgents

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, March 11 (UPI) -- The Pakistan Army has killed 26 people, some of which they labeled terrorists, in a raid in the North Waziristan region.

Pakistan officials said the people -- who local officials said were not terrorists -- were killed during an air strike and subsequent ground troop attack.

CNN reports the Pakistan Army acted on intelligence that terrorists were meeting in the area.

Some of the 26 dead are believed to be foreigners but no further identification was made available.

A hundred people were killed in fighting in the region this week between Pakistani troops and suspected Taliban insurgents.
