British party distributes Danish cartoon

LONDON, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- The British National Party says it has distributed 500,000 leaflets with the Danish cartoon of Prophet Muhammad to show Muslim and Western values do not mix.

A spokesman for the party, whose leaders have been accused in the past of inciting racial hatred, said the cartoon in the leaflet is juxtaposed with a photograph of Muslim demonstrators carrying banners urging violence and death against publishers of the cartoon, reports The Times of London.

"What the leaflet says is which do you find most offensive? The cartoon or Muslim demonstrators calling for terrorist attacks on Europe," said the spokesman.

A message on the BNP's Web site urged members to leave copies of the leaflets on the church notice boards and on trains and buses. It said the leaflet is in response to a decision by British media not to publish the cartoons.

A spokesman for a Muslim group that organized a peaceful protest last week, said: "Quite clearly the BNP wants to stay in the framework of continuing to cause offense," The Times reported. Labor Party Chairman Ian McCartney said leaflets are "straight out of the Nazi textbook."
