Musharraf thanks donors for quake aid

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Pakistan's president expressed his gratitude Wednesday to those who donated aid as rescuer's hopes of finding survivors of the massive earthquake fade.

During a televised speech, President Pervez Musharraf thanked the 30 countries who donated money or other assistance after an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 rocked the region on Saturday.

Tens of thousands are dead in Pakistan as search and rescue crews continue, Ireland Online reports.

Musharraf also thanked rival India for offering support. India, which borders Pakistan, suffered 1,400 deaths in the quake.

While survivors wait homeless and hungry throughout the Kashmir region, the injured are being caught in a backlog of packed hospitals and makeshift medic stations.

As the time passes, hope of finding survivors does too.

Rescuers find miracles though, like the Russian team that found a 5-year-old girl buried for more than 100 hours.

Her father and two sisters had died but her mother and two other sisters survived.

When she was found with little injuries she whispered "I want to drink."
