ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The self-styled Taliban spokesman -- captured earlier this week in Pakistan -- said Taliban supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omar is still in Afghanistan.

Abdul Latif Hakimi said Omar stayed in touch with Taliban leaders via satellite phone, Pakistani officials said Wednesday.

Pakistani intelligence officials found Hakimi earlier this week in Pakistan's Baluchistan province, which borders Afghanistan.

He was often quoted by local and international news agencies as the voice of the Taliban following acts attributed to the group, such as clashes with U.S. and international forces.
