N.C. lake yields submerged bomber

IRMO, N.C., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Workers in Irmo, N.C., raised a World War II B-25 bomber from Lake Murray, where it had crashed 60 years ago, reports the Charlotte Observer.

About 500 people, who had gathered at the landing on the north side of the dam, cheered as the plane surfaced Monday night. Workers spent another three hours draining water and 800 gallons of fuel from the plane.

Early Tuesday, the bomber was lowered into a cradle, where it will rest until workers start disassembling it and shipping it to a museum in Alabama.
