OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- California-based ice cream giant Dreyer's is adding a new flavor to its Frozen Paws line of doggie treats.
The Los Angeles Times reports Dreyer's says that Frozen Paws is its most profitable line, although sales are a tiny fraction of the revenue it makes from Haagen-Dazs and other brands of people ice cream. The company introduced Frozen Paws more than 10 years ago.
What's in the pipeline is Frozen Paws in a peanut butter flavor. The company investigated flavors that both dogs and their owners would find appealing -- beef ice cream was dropped as unlikely to attract the owners who hold the purse strings -- and discovered that dogs love peanut butter.
The flavor now on the market, described by the company as a sort of doggie vanilla, will be known as Frozen Paws Original Flavor.
The treats are engineered to be digestible by dogs, which means that there's no actual milk or cream.
