France to launch Russian rockets

MOSCOW, March 29 (UPI) -- France has agreed to launch Russian rockets from its near-equatorial space complex in Guyana, Interfax news agency reported Tuesday.

A contract between the Russian Space Agency and the French Arianspace company to build a launch complex for Soyuz rockets in French Guyana will be signed April 11, Russian Space Agency head Anatoly Perminov told Interfax.

Russian Space Agency spokesman Vyacheslav Davydenko told the news agency financing for the project will begin as soon as the contract is signed.

The initial agreement to use Russian rockets at the launch pad was completed in May 2003 during a ministers' session of the European Space Agency, Interfax said.
