Mexican foreign minister meets with Rice

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez Tuesday traveled to Washington to meet for the first time with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Derbez, who is aspiring to be secretary-general of the Organization of American States, discussed the bilateral agenda between the two countries with Rice, according to a spokesman in Derbez's office.

The two diplomats reportedly discussed several issues, including migration, border security and water. Derbez also met with members of the U.S. Congress.

During his brief visit, Derbez also sought to address aspects of the next meeting between Mexican President Vicente Fox and U.S. President George W. Bush, scheduled to take place in March in Washington.
