Joint meeting canceled after attacks

GAZA, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Israel Thursday postponed a security meeting with the Palestinians in response to militants' mortar attacks on Gaza settlements.

Israel also warned the mortar barrages had to stop "immediately," Israel Radio said. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon met with his top ministers to discuss the latest developments.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters a meeting with Sharon aide Dov Weisglass on security issues and the release of Palestinian prisoners was canceled by Israel.

The Islamic militant Hamas movement claimed responsibility for a predawn mortar attack on Gush Katif in the southern Gaza in retaliation for Wednesday's death of a Palestinian teen.
