Thousands at Boxing Day hunt

LONDON, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Thousands of men and women in England and Wales took part in hundreds of post-Christmas hunts, which could be one of the last hunts before the 2005 ban.

A ban on fox hunting is scheduled to be implemented in 2005, however, legal challenges could delay the ban from being enforced, the BBC reported.

The traditional Boxing Day hunt took place a day late on Monday, because hunts are never held on Sundays.

In addition, to those participating in the fox hunts an estimated 300,000 people were spectators.

Some anti-hunt protesters demonstrated at some hunts, but most of the mainstream anti-hunt groups had said they decided not to demonstrate on what could be the last post-Christmas hunts.

However, hunt organizers said Monday's hunt would not be the last Boxing Day hunt.
