Official: China's economy to grow in 2005

BEIJING, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- An official with China's National Statistics Bureau Sunday made positive predictions for the country's economy in 2005.

Zheng Jingping, director-general of the Department of Comprehensive Statistics of NBS, said at a forum in Beijing he expects the growth rate of China's economy to continue to grow at a high speed in 2005, reported Xinhua, China's main government-run news agency. The growth rate for 2004 has been estimated to exceed nine percent.

He said the country has experienced rapid growth in urbanization and industrialization since 2002. Zheng also said China has seen improvement on the consumption level and active participation in global division of labor.

Zheng predicted those four characteristics will continue to grow China's economy. He also believes the expanding global economy will increase demand of exports, investment and consumption will remain strong.

However, he said problems in the country's economic system will continue, causing trouble in the distribution of land, labor and capital.
