Ethics charges filed against Rep.McDermott

WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Rep. Dave Hobson, R-Ohio, has filed a complaint with the House Ethics Committee against Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash.

The complaint involves the leaking of a December 1996 phone conversation between House Republican leaders that was illegally taped and has been part of a long battle between McDermott and Rep. Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio.

A federal judge ruled in October in a case first filed in 1998 that McDermott must pay Boehner $60,000 in damages along with attorney's fees for leaking the tape to reporters.

McDermott has filed an appeal of the ruling.
