Arafat kin to get his medical records

PARIS, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- France will release the medical records of Yasser Arafat to his nephew.

Nasser al-Kidwa, who also is the Palestinian representative at the United Nations, was scheduled to arrive in Paris Friday to take possession of medical records that describe Arafat's medical problems just before he died at a French military hospital on Nov. 11 of multiple organ failure, the BBC reported Friday.

Officials in Paris said French law prohibited them from releasing the records to any but his family. It was not clear if Arafat's wife also will receive or has received a copy of her husband's medical records.

Arafat's medical problems have been the subject of widespread speculation since he took ill in late October.

A senior Palestinian said he expected Arafat's nephew, Nasser al-Kidwa, to release the report.

"The full medical report of President Arafat is a historical document for the Palestinian people," Hassan Abu Libdeh, the Palestinian cabinet secretary, said Thursday.
