Fox offers to be U.S.-LatAm mediator

RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Mexican President Vicente Fox offered to be the mediator between Latin America and the United States, Reforma reported Friday.

Fox, during a visit to Rio de Janeiro for the annual 19-nation Rio Group summit of Latin American leaders, said Thursday during a telephone conversation he had had with newly re-elected President George W. Bush, he asked Bush to make Latin America more of a priority.

"There was the hope in our chats and meetings that in these next four years there will really be a major emphasis, and major actions by the United States, in the whole region of Latin America and the Carribbean in particular," Fox said.

Fox also told various Latin American presidents it will be possible for the United States to be interested in nations in the center and south of the continent.
