Peterson case nears deliberations

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- The Scott Peterson murder trial adjourned Tuesday with the double-murder case on the verge of going to the jury.

Defense attorney Mark Geragos will complete his closing argument Wednesday following nearly a full day of arguments on Peterson's behalf Tuesday.

Geragos tried to poke holes in the Modesto police case against Peterson and discounted possible motives Peterson might have had to allegedly murder his pregnant wife, Laci.

Laci Peterson disappeared on the day before Christmas in 2002. Her remains and those of her unborn son were found the following spring in San Francisco Bay.

Cameras weren't allowed in the courtroom; however CourtTV reported Geragos argued Peterson was excited about Laci's pregnancy and had little to gain financially from his wife's death.

Peterson could face the death penalty if convicted.
