Israel demolishes Gaza houses, wounds boy

GAZA, July 22 (UPI) -- The Israeli Army bulldozed two houses and a commercial shop in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun Thursday, Palestinian security sources said.

The sources said Israeli military bulldozers backed by tanks pushed into the town early Thursday under heavy cover fire.

A 9-year-old Palestinian boy was injured in the sporadic fire, which preceded the demolition on the border with Egypt.

The sources said the Israeli Army had also bulldozed a number of agricultural areas east of the town and established a military post.

An Israeli military spokesman, however, said the Israeli Army had opened fire on Palestinian militants who attacked Israeli forces with anti-tank rocket, but caused no injuries.

The spokesman said the army discovered two tunnels used for smuggling weapons in the area of Rafah, in southern Gaza.

Israeli Apache attack helicopters fired missiles late Wednesday at a blacksmith shop in the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis. No injuries were reported.

The Israeli army said the shop was used for manufacturing weapons.
