U.N. watchdog to ask Israel to de-nuke

NEW YORK, June 27 (UPI) -- The head of the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog, Mohamed ElBaradei, said Sunday Israel should start discussions to rid the Middle East of nuclear weapons.

He said such dialogue would help reduce frustration in the region about "what is seen to be a widespread imbalance," the BBC reported.

ElBaradei is scheduled to travel to Israel next month to discuss making the Middle East a nuclear-free zone.

He said everyone knew Israel has nuclear capability, although Israel has refused to admit to the allegations.
