Tijuana newspaper editor slain

TIJUANA, Mexico, June 22 (UPI) -- The slaying of a Mexican newspaper editor Tuesday stirred speculation drug traffickers or members of the political elite were involved.

Francisco Ortiz Franco, deputy editor of the weekly Zeta, was fatally shot while seated in his car with his two children in Tijuana's Zona Rio district.

Although there were no suspects immediately identified, the controversial newspaper has attracted violence in the past in the often-violent border city.

The newspaper's publisher and co-founder were both the victims of attacks during the late 1980s and 1990s.
