Allawi to start Arab tour soon

AMMAN, Jordan, June 17 (UPI) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi plans a tour of Arab countries to garner support for his interim government, which will take over Iraq's rule after June 30.

Sources in Allawi's Iraqi Reconciliation Movement said the prime minister will ask Arab leaders for their assistance in providing training and equipment for Iraq's security forces and police, to enable them to control security in the war-torn country.

They said Jordan would probably be the first stop on Allawi's Arab tour, which will kick off soon. They did not, however, identify the countries he will be visiting.

Allawi is scheduled to visit the United States in July for meetings with President George Bush and other senior U.S. officials.
