BEIJING, May 9 (UPI) -- The Society of Chinese Bio-scientists in America and the Chinese Academy of Sciences planned Sunday to arrange the 10th International Symposium for July.

CAS Vice President Chen Zhu, also the executive chairman of the symposium organizing committee, said Sunday that advancement in life sciences improves human life, the government-run Xinhua News Service reported Sunday.

Chen, a CAS academician, is also a world-recognized bio-scientist. He said more than 400 participants, including some Nobel laureates, are to discuss stem cell mechanism, molecular biology, cancer gene therapy, clinical and therapeutic immunology, HIV vaccine, advances in SARS research, and modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.

SCBA President Jean Chen Shih and the president of Beijing University, Xu Zhihong, are co-chairmen of the symposium.

Four to five plenary sessions, as well as 55 workshops, will be organized, together with an exhibition on bio-technology and products during the symposium.

The SCBA, established in 1984, has more than 2,500 members. It has organized nine international symposia on bio-science.
