Peterson lawyer presses venue change

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 27 (UPI) -- Jury selection continued in the Redwood City, Calif., trial of Scott Peterson Tuesday even as his attorney prepared to press for a second change of venue.

The Modesto Bee said lawyer Mark Geragos planned to use a television interview by a dismissed jury candidate to demonstrate that the jury pool in the Bay Area was biased to the point his client could not receive a fair trial.

Geragos said the juror told a TV crew she would have voted for the death penalty for Peterson despite stating on her written juror questionnaire that she could be impartial.

Geragos has said some jury candidates appeared to be lying about their impartiality in order get on the panel. A hearing on the request will be held May 11.

Peterson is charged with murdering his wife, Laci, and their unborn child in 2002. The case had been moved to Redwood City from the Petersons' hometown of Modesto.
