WASHINGTON, April 14 (UPI) -- CIA Director George Tenet told the Sept. 11 commission he did not see President Bush once in August 2001, the month before the massive terror attacks.
"In this time period I'm not talking to him, no," Tenet said in response to questions from Commissioner Tim Roemer.
Tenet said he did not pass along information he received about Zacarias Moussaoui, who was attending flight school in Minnesota to the president or his staff.
Moussaoui was attempting to learn to fly Boeing 747s although he had no aviation background and could not explain $30,000 in cash deposits to his bank account. The FBI contacted the CIA about Moussaoui, and Tenet was briefed on his case on Aug. 23 or 24, Tenet said.
Despite the information about Moussaoui and monitoring heightened "chatter" about a major terror attack during the summer of 2001, Tenet said he and Bush did not converse in August, when Bush was in Texas and Tenet was in Washington and on leave.
Bush did not learn about Moussaoui until after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
