WASHINGTON, March 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. State Department Thursday said Iran's decision to resume uranium processing showed it did not take its international requirements seriously.
"These further statements ... just sort of emphasize the disdain with which Iran seems to be holding the whole process at the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said.
He called on the IAEA, the U.N. nuclear watchdog, to continue scrutinizing Iran's performance on its commitments.
Boucher said Washington was working with other countries on a strong resolution against Iran at the IAEA.
"I think people are aware of these kind of statements that Iran has been making," he said.
The IAEA board meets in June to assess Iran's performance on its commitments to the body.
"The process of actually drafting the resolution is ongoing in Vienna even as we speak," he said.
Boucher also confirmed IAEA chief Mohammed ElBaradei was visiting Washington next week for meetings with top officials.
