Clear Channel posts murder billboard

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A California radio station posted billboards inviting people to call and vote on accused killer Scott Peterson's guilt or innocence.

Station KNEW, a talk-format outlet owned by media giant Clear Channel in San Francisco, put up the billboards near the San Mateo County Superior Court where Peterson will be tried for the deaths of his wife and unborn son, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday.

"Man or Monster?" the billboards ask, as they feature a photo of Peterson in his jail uniform.

People are invited to use a toll-free number to vote "innocent" or "guilty."

Tom Rosenstiel, director of the Project for Excellence in Journalism in Washington, D.C., said that in "terms of taste and decency, this is over the line. It's grotesque."

Besides the two billboards near the 101 freeway, KNEW had another billboard on a flatbed truck parked outside the courthouse last week with a similar plea for viewers to call in and vote.
