Scott Peterson trial may be delayed

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- The attorney for Scott Peterson wants the Redwood City, Calif., court to delay his client's trial for double murder while he attends another murder trial.

In court papers filed Friday, Peterson's attorney, Mark Geragos, said he has been ordered to appear in Los Angeles Tuesday to represent Brett Williams, a Pasadena, Calif., man charged in the 2002 murder of his former wife, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Sunday.

Geragos said he expected the trial in Los Angeles County Court to last 10 days.

Prosecutors had asked the court to start hearings in the Peterson case on Feb. 17. Geragos has not asked for an alternative day to start Peterson's trial but asked to discuss the matter in court on Monday.

Peterson, accused of killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and unborn son, had his trial moved from his hometown of Modesto to Redwood City because of heavy publicity.
