Wireless phone switching moderate

TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Americans are not on speed dial when it comes to switching home phones to wireless or their wireless numbers to new carriers.

About 10 percent of the estimater 1 million people eligible to switch since Monday have done so, says TSI Telecommunications Service Inc. of Tampa, Fla., which handles about 80 percent of the switching orders.

Starting last Monday, consumers in the top 100 metropolitan areas were allowed to keep their numbers when switching between wireless carriers or transferring their number from a home phone to a wireless phone, but while there was increased traffic in cell phone stores, actual applications for the switch did not materialize, the Washington Post reported.
