Bush: No hostile intent for N. Korea

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- President George Bush says he has no intention of rushing into war against North Korea or Iran, the London Telegraph reported Friday.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Bush said war was "the last choice an American President should take" and declared military action was not the only way to curb the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

His comments appeared directed at the thousands of anti-war demonstrators expected when he arrives in Britain for a three-day visit next week.

"I can understand people not liking war, if that's what they're there to protest," he said. "I don't like war. War is the last choice a president should make, not the first."

Bush spoke with reporters shortly after authorizing a major rethink of U.S. policy for post-Saddam Hussein Iraq.

The White House is now pushing for Iraqi self-rule by the middle of next year, sooner than originally envisaged, allowing many U.S. troops to leave before next November's presidential election.
