Iraq attacks kill one, wound 19 troops

BAGHDAD, July 4 (UPI) -- Several attacks in Iraq killed one U.S. soldier and injured at least 19 others, CNN reported Friday

A soldier was shot and killed by a sniper in Baghdad Thursday night while guarding the Iraq Museum, U.S. military sources said. The soldier from the 1st Infantry Division was in the gun turret of a Bradley fighting vehicle when he was shot.

More than 50 miles north of the Iraqi capital, a mortar attack on a U.S. army base near Balad Thursday night, U.S. Central Command reported 19 soldiers from the 3rd Combat Service Support Command were wounded and evacuated for medical care.

And the U.S. military is investigating a reported attack on a U.S. military convoy early Friday in Baghdad.

Earlier Thursday, attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq wounded 10 soldiers, a day after President Bush challenged Iraqis opposed to the U.S.-led occupation to "bring 'em on."
