Hotel workers strike averted

CHICAGO, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Negotiators for union workers and 25 hotels in Chicago and its suburbs reached a tentative contract agreement early Tuesday, averting a threatened strike on the eve of a major convention. A five-year contract covering 7,300 hotel workers expired at midnight Saturday but talks continued at the behest of Gov. George Ryan, who summoned both sides to his downtown office.
