Case dismissed against Bush daughter

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Jenna Bush, one of the president's twin daughters, complied with a judge's orders and an underage drinking charge against her was dismissed, a court spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Bush paid a $100 court fee and presented proof that she had completed 36 hours of community service and attended an alcohol awareness course, court spokeswoman Linda Rivera said. The charge was dismissed Monday by Municipal Court Judge Evelyn McKee.

Bush was charged with misrepresenting her age when she attempted to buy an alcoholic drink at an Austin restaurant May 29 with her sister, Barbara, who was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. They were 19 at the time and the legal drinking age is 21 in Texas.

Barbara's case was dismissed last month when she also submitted proof she had complied with a judge's orders in her case. She completed eight hours of community service and an alcohol awareness class and paid a $100 court fee.

Jenna Bush was facing her second underage drinking offense. On May 15, she was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol at a bar in downtown Austin. When she was cited a second time, the judge fined her $600 and suspended her driver's license for 30 days. In addition, she was ordered to do the community service and attend the alcohol awareness class.

There will be no note of the second offense on Jenna Bush's record, but the first one will remain as a conviction, according to the court.
