A man named Jean Lopez alleged that Mauldin punched him in the face after he allegedly spilled champagne on Mauldin on April 2.

The accuser is suing Mauldin in civil court, claiming Mauldin's punch broke bones in his face.

If convicted of the assault charges, Mauldin could spend up to a year in jail.

TMZ Sports reported that a court appearance has been set for August.

The 6-4, 250-pound Mauldin, 24, is entering his third season with the Jets.

He played in 11 games, including two starts, for the Jets in 2016. He had seven tackles, nine assists and 2.5 sacks.
