Minnesota Vikings unlikely to pick up QB Teddy Bridgewater's fifth-year option for 2018 season

The Minnesota Vikings are not expected to pick up quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's fifth-year option for the 2018 season.

Minnesota has until the May 2 deadline to decide on the option of Bridgewater's rookie contract

The Vikings could still re-sign Bridgewater but they do not appear willing to guarantee his 2018 salary for at least $11 million for injury, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.

Bridgewater, who dislocated his left knee and tore the ACL during a late August practice, is rehabbing and trying to make it back from the catastrophic injury.

Bridgewater, the Vikings' 2014 first-round pick, missed all of the 2016 season. The 24-year-old quarterback was a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 when he passed for 3,231 yards and 14 touchdowns against nine interceptions.

After his injury, Minnesota acquired Sam Bradford from the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2016, Bradford established an NFL single-season record for completion percentage (71.6) while passing for 3,877 yards and 20 touchdowns against just five interceptions.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said there is still no timeline for Bridgewater to resume a full workload of football activities.

"He's been in here working as hard as anyone, fighting his way back," Spielman said Tuesday of Bridgewater. "I wouldn't put it past that kid how quickly he can come back. But it's still unknown. You know, Bradford was here the very first day and leading the group, and we are very fortunate to have both of those players at that position on our roster right now."
