New England Patriots' owner says Tom Brady has seven years left

March 27 (UPI) -- Could we see 47-year-old Tom Brady quarterbacking the New England Patriots one day?

Robert Kraft doesn't doubt it. The Patriots owner recently told reporters that the five-time Super Bowl champion and two-time NFL MVP could play well into his 40's.

"As recently as two-three days ago, he assured me he's willing to play six, seven more years," Kraft told reporters.

Brady, 39, had the best touchdown-to-interception ratio of his career in 2016. In 12 games, he completed 291-of-432 passes for 3,554 yards, 28 touchdowns and two interceptions. The two-time All-Pro and 12-time Pro Bowl selection has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 21,603 yards, 156 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions since the 2012 season, when he turned 35-years-old. He has also hoisted two Lombardi trophies in that time frame.

Last month, the Boston Herald reported that Brady and the Patriots had "mutual interest" in a contract extension. He signed his latest contract extension just last year. He is due just $1 million next season but is signed for $14 million annually in 2018 and 2019.

After his Super Bowl winning performance against the Atlanta Falcons last month in Houston, Brady told SiriusXM NFL Radio that his wife wants him to retire but he wants to keep playing.

"If it was up to my wife she'd have me retire today, she told me that last night...I said too bad babe," Brady told SiriusXM NFL Radio in February.

Brady turns 40-years-old on August 3.
