Reports: New York Jets to release WR Brandon Marshall

First Nick Mangold, then Darrelle Revis.

The next New York Jets veteran to be shown the door will be Brandon Marshall.

The 32-year-old wide receiver will be released by the team, multiple media outlets reported Thursday night. NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported that the Jets informed Marshall of their decision. The move came at Marshall's request, according to Newsday's Kimberley A. Martin.

Marshall was due to make $7.5 million this year, and the Jets will save all of that money against the salary cap.

After amassing 109 receptions for 1,502 yards and 19 touchdowns two years ago (all three figures ranking in the top five in the league), Marshall slipped to 59 catches, 788 yards and three scores last season.

A six-time Pro Bowl performer, Marshall was the Broncos' fourth-round draft pick in 2006. He spent six seasons in Denver, then played two years with the Miami Dolphins and three with the Chicago Bears. He has six 100-catch seasons and eight 1,000-yard seasons.

Eric Decker, Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson become the Jets' top wide receivers with Marshall exiting, though Decker appeared in just three games last season before needing shoulder and hip surgeries.

The Jets previously announced that they would not retain cornerback Revis and center Mangold.
