Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A once promising career has already hit a crossroads for Eddie Lacy.

But the Green Bay Packers running back isn't giving up, despite being a free agent this offseason. Lacy, who suffered an ankle surgery that ended his season in October, is working hard to come back.

On Tuesday he posted a video of his rehab from a swimming pool at the University of Alabama.

Lacy, 26, went to the Pro Bowl after his first season. He ran for 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns that season. He hasn't eclipsed either of those numbers since. Last season he rushed for just 360 yards on 71 carries without scoring a touchdown in five games.

Lacy had 2,740 yards from scrimmage and 32 touchdowns in three seasons for the Crimson Tide. He spent last offseason using P90X to get back in shape after sharp comments regarding his weight emerged from coach Mike McCarthy. Lacy was fined for "not making weight over the last couple of seasons," according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

The running back made $3.4 million on his rookie deal.

The four-year veteran is likely to have to settle for a one-year deal. Last month, McCarthy said he would like to have Lacy back with the famed franchise. Ty Montgomery is currently the only running back on the Packers' roster.
