Greene was hired by the New York Jets to coach the team's outside linebackers, The Sporting News reported on Friday.

The 54-year-old Greene, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, recorded 160.0 sacks with the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers during his 15-year career. The five-time Pro Bowl selection's total leads all linebackers and is third-best in NFL history.

Greene spent five years coaching outside linebackers for the Green Bay Packers under his former mentor Dom Capers. He stepped away in 2013 to spend more time with his family.

Greene will replace Mark Collins, who was dismissed on Jan. 3. Collins was hired this week by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
