New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has expressed that he would "rather not play football" than accept the team's current contract offer, ESPN reported on Thursday.

New York is offering a contract of between $7 and $8 million per season while Fitzpatrick is requesting a deal for approximately twice that amount.

Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan had repeatedly said signing Fitzpatrick is the team's leading priority but the stalemate has persisted.

Fitzpatrick passed for a franchise-record 31 touchdown passes last season and also passed for a career-best 3,905 yards.

The only quarterbacks currently on New York's roster are Geno Smith and Bryce Petty.
