CLEVELAND, April 17 (UPI) -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel apologized to fans upon his departure from rehab, saying he will work to regain everyone's "trust and respect."

Manziel checked himself into rehab into late January for substance abuse after a series of incidents during his rookie year.

"I owe private apologies to a lot of people that I disappointed but a very public one to the Browns organization and the fans that I let down. I take full responsibility for my actions and it's my intention to work very hard to regain everyone's trust and respect," Manziel said in his statement Friday.

Manziel also asked for privacy as he tried to work his way through personal issues.

The Browns are expected to be done with Manziel after his disappointing season.

Aside from a hamstring injury that took him off the field before the end of the season, his antics off the field generated plenty of bad press.

These incidents included slurred talking to a stack of cash meant to be a telephone, drinking a bottle of champagne while riding an inflatable swan in a nightclub pool, being filmed rolling up a $20 bill in a bathroom and tussling with a fan in the lobby of his apartment building hours before a game in November.

Teammate and left tackle Joe Thomas has said Manziel "probably lost a lot of trust."
