Miami Dolphins empty the bank for Suh

By Alex Butler

MIAMI, March 9 (UPI) -- All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh will sign with the Miami Dolphins Tuesday for $114 million with $60 million guaranteed, according to ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen.

Suh's deal will make him the highest paid defender in the NFL. Last year, the Houston Texans gave J.J. Watt $100 million over six years, and $51.876 million guaranteed.

Suh moves from the top-ranked run defense in the league to the Dolphins, who rank 24th. The 6-foot- 4, 307-pound Nebraska product was taken No. 2 in the 2010 NFL Draft. Suh, 28, has 36 sacks, 181 tackles, and 15 career interceptions in 78 games. Suh won the 2010 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and has been selected to four Pro Bowls and has been first team All-Pro three times.

Detroit previously confirmed that it would not place the franchise tag on Suh, which would have been worth $26.8 million next season.

The NFL suspended Suh after he stepped on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Dec. 28. Suh appealed the ruling and had the suspension overturned, instead he paid a $70,000 fine.

Suh has been reprimanded numerous times in his career, including a $100,000 fine for an illegal chop block in the first game of 2013 and a two-game suspension in 2011 for stepping on the arm of Packers lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith.
