Uncle Drew: Pepsi honors Cleveland Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving

By Alex Butler

CLEVELAND, June 30 (UPI) -- His dagger 3-pointer in the face of the NBA MVP in the NBA Finals won't be Kyrie Irving's parting gift to "the youngbloods."

Pepsi released another 'Uncle Drew' commercial Tuesday. 'Uncle Drew,' or the costumed and makeup covered old man version of the Cleveland Cavaliers guard, typically visits basketball courts in disguise. When he arrives, he pretends to be feeble and talentless. After tricking onlookers, he turns on his all-world dribbling and dunking skills.

"Buckets aren't given away," Irving says in the video. "Buckets are earned."

"Champions are born out of the fire," Irving says. "You get knocked down, you get back up. The only question is: are you willing to put in that work? Are you willing to stay in the gym after the lights go out?"

Irving is set to head to Rio de Janeiro with the United States Olympic team. He averaged 27.1 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.9 rebounds in the Cavaliers 4-3 NBA Finals upset of the Golden State Warriors. But his shot in the final quarter of the decisive game will be the moment everyone remembers.

"Well done, youngblood. You got THE bucket. #UncleDrew," Pepsi said in the commercial.
