April 21 (UPI) -- The San Francisco Giants sent ace Madison Bumgarner to the 10-day disabled list Friday after he injured his left shoulder riding a dirt bike. The accident occurred during the team's day off Thursday in Denver.
Bumgarner has bruised ribs and a Grade 1 or 2 AC sprain in his pitching shoulder, according to the Giants' website. He will miss six-to-eight weeks with the injury, according to the MLB Network.
Bumgarner has been released from the hospital and is staying at a team hotel. He will be re-evaluated next week. This is the first time in his career that Bumgarner has landed on the disabled list.
Chris Stratton was called up from Triple-A Sacramento. On Wednesday, Bumgarner allowed one earned run in seven innings. The 27-year-old is 0-3 this season with a 3.00 ERA in a league-high four starts. "Mad Bum" had a league-high 34 starts last season and posted a 15-9 record with a 2.74 ERA.
The four-time All-Star was also hitting a career-best .286 with two home runs and two RBI in seven at-bats for the Giants.
