SEATTLE, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Right-handed starting pitcher Chris Heston is staying out west this winter after being traded to the Seattle Mariners.

The San Francisco Giants traded the 28-year-old relief pitcher to the Mariners Sunday, according to Jon Morosi.

Heston was 1-1 last season, holding a 10.80 ERA and tossing three strikeouts in four games for the Giants. In 2015, he went 12-11 with a 3.95 ERA and 141 strikeouts in 31 starts. He also went 2-0, with a 4.29 ERA, in 92.1 minor league innings last season. Heston also threw a no-hitter in 2015 against the New York Mets.

San Jose Mercury News Giants reporter Daniel Brown said the team might make the move to clear a roster spot for the recently acquired Mark Melancon.
