The Chicago Cubs activated outfielder Dexter Fowler from the 15-day disabled list on Friday after he had missed a month with a strained right hamstring.

Fowler was in the lineup for Friday's game in Milwaukee and occupied his customary leadoff spot in the batting order. He had been on the disabled list since June 19.

The switch-hitting Fowler is hitting .290 with seven homers, 28 RBIs and six steals in 64 games. He was voted to the starting lineup for the All-Star Game but could not participate because of his injury.

The Cubs also added pitcher Mike Montgomery to the 25-man roster. The left-handed Montgomery was acquired in a deal with the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.

Outfielder Albert Almora Jr. and right-hander Spencer Patton were optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room for Fowler and Montgomery.
