Louisville students' lawsuit against escort Katina Powell dismissed

By The Sports Xchange

A judge has dismissed the lawsuit filed by University of Louisville students against a former escort, who wrote a book about allegations of sex parties at the basketball players' dormitory.

The four students had filed a suit against Katina Powell, claiming her book diminished the value of their education.

Jefferson Circuit Judge Mitch Perry dismissed the complaint on Tuesday. Powell's tell-all book was about providing strippers and dancers to Louisville men's basketball recruits and players.

The sex scandal became public in October when Powell wrote about the activities in a book called "Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen."

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino has maintained he had no knowledge of the paid escorts and did nothing wrong -- blaming former men's basketball staffer Andre McGee for any wrongdoing -- as the scandal kept the school out of this past season's NCAA Tournament.

The university imposed its own ban that prohibited the team from participating in the tournament.

ESPN's "Outside the Lines" reported that at least three former recruits told NCAA investigators they attended parties in an on-campus dorm where prostitutes were paid to have sex with them.

Powell detailed how McGee paid her roughly $10,000 between 2010 and 2014 to supply dancers and escorts to parties that occurred inside Billy Minardi Hall, the on-campus dorm that houses basketball players and other athletes.
